A goalie goes down at 8pm and a whole team's night dies with them. The group exists so that doesn't happen. Somebody always answers.

Why it exists

I quit for thirty-five years.
Then my kid started skating.

I played goalie in Thunder Bay from the time I was six until I didn't make the local Jr B team. Then I put the pads down and didn't pick them up again for thirty-five years.

What brought me back was my son Mac starting NHL & NHLPA Learn to Play. In 2019 I laced up as a skater, joining the Brew Jackets in the D9 League and, at the same time, the then-NYCGHA — now the NYC Pride Hockey Alliance. Straight into the deep end of the pool. I didn't think my knees had a season in them. They did. A few seasons in I found STOKO, and on July 26, 2023 a wearable brace plus my orthopedic surgeon's blessing got me back between the pipes. I've been playing three or four times a week since — and I'm on the short list when BookAGoalie is in a jam, getting paid to play at high-level skates.

The hockey I came back to was better than the hockey I left, mostly because of who was in the room. On weekends Mac and I help get kids with special needs onto the ice with the Central Park North Stars.

In October 2023 the NHL banned Pride Tape. I spent that week building a mask by hand — tape, glitter, clearcoat — and I've worn it ever since. ONLYGOALIES is the same idea with a bigger crease: a place for goalies and their allies, and the people that back them, without the part of hockey culture that makes people quit.
